Fred's meal memories

Grandad used to say miracles happened in his garden, though he mostly praised good soil and patience. He’d let me help move cabbage plants from the greenhouse to the garden, carefully setting them into the soft earth. Months later, those same cabbages appeared at dinnertime, mixed with potatoes and butter - my first taste of colcannon mash.
