Because Caring Matters: Shining a Light on Carents Across the UK
On Thursday 9th October, we’re proud to support the very first Carents Day, a nationwide event dedicated to recognising the millions of adults across the UK who care for their elderly parents.
For so many, caring for an ageing loved one isn’t a formal role, it’s simply what you do. You step up, you show up, and you do your best every day. But behind those small, everyday acts of care lies a story of love, patience and quiet strength.
What is a Carent?
You might be wondering, what exactly is a Carent?
A Carent is someone who looks after an elderly parent, often while managing a job, raising a family, and keeping up with the demands of daily life. They may not call themselves “Carents”, but they’ll recognise the reality of the role: juggling appointments, offering emotional support, helping with meals, finances or household tasks, and constantly thinking about how to make life a little easier for someone they love.
There are millions of Carents in the UK, yet many go unrecognised. They’re not always seen as “carers” in the traditional sense, they are sons and daughters simply doing their best. But they form a vital, often invisible part of the social care system, quietly filling in the gaps with love, time, and energy.
Why Carents Day Matters
Carents Day is all about recognition and reflection. It’s a day to stop, breathe, and say thank you to those who give so much of themselves for others. It’s also about helping Carents feel supported, connected, and less alone in what can sometimes be an isolating journey.
At Parsley Box, we are so happy to highlight the free online workshops designed especially for Carents, covering topics like:
- Wellbeing and mental health tips to avoid burnout and care for yourself while caring for someone else.
- Fitness and nutrition - small, practical ways to stay healthy and energised.
- Creativity and self-expression - gentle outlets that help release stress and nurture joy.
- Practical advice - from navigating healthcare systems to managing finances and planning for the future.
Because being a Carent isn’t just about caring for someone else, it’s about remembering to care for yourself too.
How Parsley Box Supports Carents
At Parsley Box, we understand how demanding, and deeply meaningful, caring can be. Many of our customers are Carents themselves. Some order meals to help support their parents’ independence, ensuring there’s always something comforting and nutritious on hand. Others are being supported by their own children, adult sons and daughters who buy meals to make life easier for Mum or Dad.
Our ready-to-heat meals are designed for ease, comfort, and reassurance. They are quick to prepare, tasty, and delivered straight to the door. That means one less thing to worry about and more time to focus on the moments that matter: sharing a chat, a laugh, or simply sitting together over a meal.
At Parsley Box, we’re here to make those caring moments a little easier. Whether you’re choosing meal bundles, meals for one, or options specially designed for specific dietary needs, our meals help save time and simplify life.
